VolunteerGwinnett.com is the place to visit for a collection of public, private, and church volunteer and donation opportunities in Gwinnett County GA and adjoining areas.
VolunteerGwinnett.com was inspired by a letter printed in the Gwinnett Daily Post. Tom Kincaid was visiting Rock Springs Park and thinking about how fortunate Gwinnett residents are to have such beautiful parks and the costs of maintaining such a beautiful 80+ acre facility in a time of tight budgets. He was thinking that volunteers could not only work in the parks, as many already do, but also in other non-critical government areas to relieve the stress on the budget and on hard-working and already-stretched Gwinnett County employees. Tom wrote a letter to the editor at the Post expressing his thoughts, not thinking it would be printed, but it showed up a few days later in the letters area. The editor added the headline "Step Up and Help the County". Don Hoppe, who is now a contributing editor to VG.com, saw the letter and emailed Tom, and an idea was hatched. We started thinking if we could provide a central point where agencies, ministries, food co-ops, and anyone using volunteers could post their needs, we could probably attract even more people. People in Gwinnett really do want to help, and if we make it easier to find volunteer opportunities, the numbers will go up. Jim Davidson, a webmaster, signed on to help, and VolunteerGwinnett was born.
